It goes back to prehistory, the charm of listening to someone tell
a story. 10,000 years ago we sat around our fires spellbound by the tales of the
tribe. Since literacy, we read, and are nurtured in a more oblique way by the
presence of the writer, the voice present on the page, but in silence. Tales
from Earth is a return to the ancient pleasure of hearing a good story well
told.
I
started Tales from Earth as a weekly FM radio show on a small college station in
San Francisco. It ran for close to three years. The FM broadcast was a mix of
world stories and world music. Because of music copyright it is not possible to
rebroadcast the complete shows here on the web site. I'm in the process of
finding another venue where I can add the music back in. Watch this
space.
